You’ve most likely seen these boxes distributed around town at area grocery stores, Classic Cleaners locations, and the Wausau Center Mall. They are collection boxes for the Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids Program. The Kiwanis Club of Wausau are the driving force behind this project and this week the club reports that donations are down about 75% from previous years.
At a time when winter coats and outerwear are needed the most, collection amounts are at their lowest levels ever. The Wausau noon Kiwanis have been running this service project since 1990 and in a typical year are able to help between 400-600 people. The need never goes away and families that receive coats are grateful that they are able to stay warm this winter.
Coats for Kids collection will continue through this week until Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011. At that time all the boxes will be rounded up and sorted for the distribution on Friday and Saturday, November 4-5. Please dig into your closet and help, tell your friends, and acquaintences and distribute this flier within your business. Our community needs your support.
As for what’s wrong with this picture: with your support we can fill the box so that it’s brimming full with winter coats.
