Business Member News
Many of the local businesses are pulling out all the stops for this year’s holiday shopping season. I am constantly amazed at all the noise the large retailers are making, every year it gets louder and louder. Small businesses can easily be swept under and lost in the commotion. Fortunately, they have an equal footing on the web and more and more small and local businesses are embracing online marketing to connect and engage with their customers. Do you want to reach a local following affordably and efficiently? RelyLocal Wausau can help.
We have two new business members on the RelyLocal Wausau directly that I would like to introduce. Coolwater Creative is a web design, marketing, and social media company that specializes in helping small businesses and non-profit organizations create a message and get it out their. Check them out, I really love their innovative approach and social mission to marketing.
Sekara, LLC provides supportive care services to help keep seniors and disabled in their homes and provide a comfortable group home setting for those who can’t. With a full line of in home care services available, they can provide a custom tailored program to meet the needs of the individual they are serving. Sekara, Greek ‘for a safe place’ can help those that would otherwise fall through the social safety net.

Plaid Friday Craziness

Black Friday is a term that was applied to the retail industry to describe the Friday after Thanksgiving. It was believed that this traditional shopping day was the point in time when retailer’s sales figures take them out of the red and ‘into the black.’ Black Friday has become an experience unto itself as the large retailers fight each other for precious slivers of market share. That fight leaves the small, local merchants in the dust. Plaid Friday celebrates the creativity and diversity of local and independent merchants as an alternative to the Big Box Stores. So, dress in plaid and shop local and independent this Friday.
Downtown merchants are offering some great incentives to shop local this holiday season. Stop at Stoned and Wired located in the Landmark Building downtown to receive a free pair of earrings on Friday with a $25 purchase. NevaeH Gallery Boutique is offering holiday sale prices on Friday, with savings of $5.00 on $40 spent and $20 on every $100 spent in the gallery.
Blue Green Gallery and Gifts of Weston is opening shop downtown for the holiday season at 320 Washington. Stop in on Fridays and Saturdays for their distinctive holiday gifts and decorations; almost all of them are locally produced. Details on the Buy Local Wausau Blog.http://wausaufoodie.com/2011/11/21/blue-green-gallery-opening-in-downtown-wausau-this-holiday-season/

How about giving the gift of water this holiday season. Diamond H2Ohas a great deal on a reverse osmosis unit that attaches to your existing plumbing and fits under your sink. Regularly $665, this unit is only $325 + installation and will give you unlimited fresh, pure, water on tap for a fraction of the cost of bottled. But hurry, this holiday special ends soon.
Finally, Holiday shopping can be stressful. I’ll do whatever it takes to avoid the crowds. But you can reduce the holiday stress and renew with a massage Oasis Day Spa in Mosinee, Melanies Massage Studio in Wausau, or The Solstice Spa at The Tanning Studio in Schofield. All three are open on Friday and will will book appointments. Check out theOasis Day Spa flier for their November specials.
Need to relax on Saturday after a long, hard day of shopping on Small Business Saturday? Basil in Weston is featuring the Paul Zopel Jazz Ensemble in the restaurant staring at 8:30 pm November 26. Get there early as this perennial favorite fills the house. No Cover.

Closing Thoughts

I’ve talked quite a bit about shifting your shopping habits to locally owned businesses. The Shift Your Shopping campaign can have a real effect on our community and economy. It only takes a 10% shift to create real change; in fact we can have a 2-3 times economic impact shopping local than if we spent the same dollars in large retail stores. How bit of a change can you make? See for yourself in our Impact of Local Spending Calculator.
Until next week, have a Happy Thanksgiving and a stress free holiday season.
