labyrinth image by flickr member aperteOn this coming Friday, Feb. 3, The First UU Church of Wausau be presenting a Labyrinth Experience, which is free and open to the public. The labyrinth will be available for walking between 5pm and 7pm that day.   First UU’s minister, Paul Beckel, will give an introduction to the labyrinth experience at 5:30pm and again at 6:30pm.  The labyrinth will be available for walking during the entire time.

Labyrinths are not a maze.  They’re a single, twisting path from the outside to a center, and back out.  They appear in many human cultures from prehistory on.  The Scandanavians made them at the edge of seaside cliffs, perhaps to trap evil spirits.  Other cultures used them as meditation aids.  Ours is based on the medieval era labyrinth in Chartres cathedral in France.

Many people throughout the course of human history have found walking a labyrinth to be a powerful spiritual tool.

The labyrinth at First UU is up now and is available all week for individual exploration.  It’s available Tuesday  Jan 31 through Thursday Feb 2 from 9 am until 9 pm, and on Friday February 3 from 9 am until 7 pm.

All are welcome!
