Early May brings the opening of the area’s farmers markets. Already the Weston Farmer’s Market has been open for a week and the Wausau Farmer’s Market will open on Saturday May 11. While fresh produce may be limited in the early season, you’ll still find some hot house vegetables and greens for sale.
More often the early season brings the starter plants for planting in your garden. The first Weston Farmer’s Market offered a variety of tomato and pepper plants for transplanting, canned salsa, BBQ sauce, honey, maple syrup, and cut flowers. As the season warms up we’ll see more and more fruits and vegetables in stock.
Farmers markets tend to be a social affair. Not only do you get to purchase locally produced food, but you have the opportunity to talk to the producers and learn about their produce. Plus you’ll never know which of your friends and neighbors you’ll meet at the market. We’ll see you at the next farmer’s market.
