Business Member News
As we celebrate Independence Day and the founding of our Nation, we should also remember the small and Independent business owners too this holiday week. “It’s a time to reflect on the importance of economic democracy and community self-determination by celebrating the nation’s locally owned independent businesses,” says AMIBA director Jennifer Rockne. Independent’s week runs July 1-7, RelyLocal Wausau is your local resource for locally owned and independently run businesses. Look for the round, red RelyLocal sticker in the places you shop, and if your favorite business isn’t a member yet, encourage them to join.

There are some big changes going on in the Washington Square building. Most notably, El Jalapeno Mexican Restaurant and Baris changing their name to Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant; but they still have the same owners and excellent food. Starting Sunday June 30th they will be closed to continue doing some great changes with at the restaurant and will reopen July 10th. Make sure to stop down and check it out!
Wild Birds Unlimited
I love following along with Wild Birds Unlimited on Facebook, every week I learn something new about our feathered friends. Question from yesterday: Why are my goldfinches eating my swiss chard? Goldfinches are one of the last birds to begin nesting along with the Cedar Waxwings beginning now. They need lots of calcium to build all of those eggs they are going to lay – so plant some swiss chard and enjoy watching them eat their salad! Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop. . .

Of course even when we’re on the road, I advocate seeking out and supporting the local community’s independent businesses.
