This week has been unbearably hot. But I know this newsletter is so cool, it lowers my body temperature every time I read it. Speaking as a person that doesn’t have air conditioning in their house, I try to get as much accomplished as possible before lunchtime so I don’t have to suffer through the heat of the day. Oh well, cooler weather is ahead, so I’m not going to complain (too much that is).
We had a great time at the Balloon and Rib festival last week, that I posted a recap on my blog. Check it out to catch some great pictures of the balloons.
Business Member News
Don’t underestimate the power of the brand. Yesterday I was out visiting clients, and in the course of running errands on three separate occasions I ran into people that recognized the RelyLocal logo on my shirt. They recognized the brand and really loved what RelyLocal is doing for local businesses. It’s amazing how the ‘little sticker in the window’ can work to increase your store’s visibility. If your business isn’t displaying the RelyLocal Wausau logo yet, contact me today to find out how you can get onboard.

Jalapenos Mexican Restaurante and Bar
The reboot of Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant is almost complete! The long awaited furniture arrives on Thursday and the area’s favorite Mexican restaurant will be open for dinner on Friday. You’ll find the same great food, but a totally different look. Head for the thatched roof in the Washington Square building.
River District Theatre
Last weekend I saw a most excellent performance from the River District Theatre titled “Lovers and Patriots.” Now I’ve talked about this show quite a few times and I usually recommend that people take in one of their engaging performances. But Lovers and Patriots is something you really need to see. It brings the personal side of one of our founding fathers John Adams and his wife Abigail’s relationship to life. The City Pages also has a great review of the show in this week’s issue. You can still catch the show this weekend with performances on Friday evening at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3:00pm at the Wausau YWCA (613 5th St). Details are on the Buy Local Wausau Blog.

Financial tip of the week
Thank you Travis of Financial Fiduciaries for another great personal finance tip.
My financial institution recently added a fee to automatically transfer from my savings to checking account. Be familiar and revisit your bank and/or credit union’s fee policies regularly and know how to avoid them. Transfer fees, ATM charges, checking account overdrafts, and interest missed due to required minimums add up fast and will cost you more than you think over the long term. Accepting these fees is like throwing away your change after paying with a five or ten dollar bill!
Local Business Roundtable
Our next Local Business Roundtable is scheduled for Thursday, July 25, 7:30am at the Wausau Entrepreneurial and Education Center. This FREE breakfast networking meeting is a great place to meet new people and make valuable connections. This month’s topic will be about face-to-face networking in the digital age. Online social tools are great at making connections, but it still takes a personal touch. Read more at the Buy Local Wausau Blog

What happened in the Pine Grove Cemetery last week was a real travesty. This is one of our favorite dog walking spots, so it hurts us to see all those broken headstones. But one local business is working to turn that around. Read more on the Buy Local Wausau Blog.
Remember last spring when the television crew was in Wausau taping an episode for the Food Network program “Food Court Wars?” Well our episode will air this Sunday at 7:00pm on the Food Network. You can read more on the Buy Local Wausau Blog about the competition that pits two local teams as they battle to win a prize that includes one year of free rent for their mall food court restaurant idea.
Keep it cool and don’t forget to stay local, my friends.
