Downtown-WitchText received from the National Weather Service this morning: “A BRIEF PREVIEW OF WINTERY WEATHER EXPECTED STARTING TONIGHT” Who’s ready to see that message? I know I’m not. This is sure going to make for a chilly Halloween. Speaking of Halloween, most of the communities in the greater Wausau area have Trick-or-Treating times scheduled for 4:00pm – 7:00pm on Friday the 31st. So take it easy on the roads for your evening commute and keep an eye out for those little ones knocking for some treats.

Hsu Growing Supply

How was your garden this year? Bumper crop, or a little sluggish. Experienced organic gardeners know that fall is no time to be lazing about. It’s the most important season of the year for improving your soil. What should you be adding to your soil this fall? Three things: finished compost, raw organic matter, and organic nutrients. Thank you Hsu Growing Supplyfor sharing this article and reminding us that the fall is a great time to add nutrients to your garden soil. (That’s when I spread all that great compost I made from clippings, coffee grounds, and organic scraps from the kitchen). Read more on gardeners.com.

Closing thoughts

With less than a week to go, campaigns for the coming mid-term elections are in full swing. I don’t think a day has gone by this month when I didn’t receive a piece of mail or a phone call telling me this thing or that. I normally don’t go political in this email, so here’s the only thing I’m going to say about the election. The top political race in the state is in a dead heat- 96% of the voters have made up their mind one way or the other. No amount of money is going to change their mind. The only way to affect the outcome is to vote. So no matter what you’re political beliefs are, if you care about the outcome- go out and vote. It’s a numbers game and for this election your vote counts.
