Every year from December to the end of February, a little community sprouts on Lake Wausau. As you drive the McCleary Bridge on your way to Rib Mountain, I’m sure you’ve seen the ice shacks dotting the landscape. But have you ever ventured onto the ice? The lake is typically safe for vehicles by Christmas, but unless you’re familiar with ice conditions, your best bet is to park in the small lot and walk out amongst the shacks. This week’s warm up is perfect weather for a bit of ice fishing. So grab a rod and and an auger and try your hand at a bit of ‘hard water’ fishing.

Could growlers of beer become more convenient? Brewpubs and small breweries often offer growlers, or 64 ounce bottles that can be filled with beer, sealed, and then consumed offsite. But now grocery stores want to get into the act. Lobbying has commenced by the Wisconsin Grocer’s Association to allow stores with a Class A liquor license the ability to fill and seal those popular vessels.
